What We Do
Gold Leaf Farming owns and operates almond, pistachio and date farms in California and Arizona. We aim to acquire best-in-class orchards, farm them sustainably, responsibly and profitably, and by doing so earn excellent long-term returns.
Our Strategy and Focus
For Gold Leaf to achieve long-term success, we will need to live
our values and follow a clear strategy. As we grow, we will prioritize:
Depth vs. Breadth
We focus exclusively on farming almonds, pistachios and dates in the western US. We often see other opportunities where Gold Leaf could expand – other crops, other growing regions, marketing/processing, etc. – but we choose to prioritize depth and expertise farming our 3 core crops vs. breadth across many different businesses.
We don’t buy farms unless we’d be happy to own them forever. We are not “flippers” and hope to farm each property we buy for many decades.
We are owner-operators who farm every property that we own. We prioritize agronomy and long-term farm health, even if it means operational complexity, upfront investment, or other short-term pain. We strive to be experts in our crops, to leverage the latest agronomic research, and to know our farms inside out.
Values & Culture
Gold Leaf was founded with specific values in mind. We believe values should not just be written down, they should be lived every day. This means we incorporate our values into the way we run Gold Leaf and the way we behave with each other (our culture). We will not always be perfect, but we strive to act according to our values.
What we mean: Think like an owner, act like an owner – because you are an owner.
How we act: We grant equity to our entire team, so everyone is a co-owner of the farms where they work. We take responsibility and are not limited by job descriptions.
What we mean: Be humble and embrace opportunities to learn & grow.
How we act: We share feedback with teammates and others with whom we work (e.g., vendors) regularly to encourage learning and growth. We are open-minded and appreciative of feedback. Constructive criticism is a good thing – it helps us improve and grow.
What we mean: Generously give time, advice and assistance – even if you expect nothing in return.
How we act: We help one another and others with whom we work – neighbors, vendors, other farmers, etc. We are not transactional – we do this because we are able to lend a hand, not because we expect something in return.
What we mean: Take responsibility for how we behave with our neighbors, our industry, and the environment.
How we act: We do all we can to better the communities where we farm, grow healthy food we’d be proud to serve our families, and be excellent stewards of the environment. We use the latest sustainable farming practices, and role model ways our industry can farm more sustainably.
What we mean: Be real – open, honest and transparent – to build trust.
How we act: We are 100% open with each other, our partners, our vendors, and our neighbors and community. As a team, we over-communicate and are not just encouraged but obligated to speak up when we disagree.
What we mean: Be biased towards action and generating results.
How we act: We make decisions and take action quickly. We aggressively drive towards final results. It’s OK to make mistakes if we learn from them.
What we mean: Treat everyone at Gold Leaf Farming like family.
How we act: We all have the same great benefits (healthcare, retirement, etc.) – from the founders to our team in the field. We treat each other fairly with compassion and respect. We all work together to build an environment where great people love to work.
Interested in joining our team?
Gold Leaf is growing quickly and we are always looking for talented people to join our team. We strive to create an environment where great people love to work by offering competitive pay, equity ownership in our farms, and benefits (e.g., healthcare, 401k, paternity/maternity leave, etc.) to our entire team and staying true to our values.
